Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

This course must follow the guidelinesestablished by the NC Office of EMS. The Officeof EMS must approve courses that include portionsdelivered via distance education. The curriculumfor the EMR educational program shall be the2009, or most current release of the UnitedStates Department of Transportation (US DOT)National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA) National Education Standards. The EMRprogram must be conducted by an approved Basic orAdvanced Educational Institution as defined inthe rules of the North Carolina Medical CareCommission. The lead instructor for the EMReducational program must be a NC credentialedLevel I EMS Instructor at the EMT, AEMT orParamedic level as defined in the rules of theNorth Carolina Medical Care Commission.Student/Course prerequisites: A) 17 years of ageon or before the official end date of the course;B) High school diploma or high school equivalent;or successful completion of an entrance examassessing basic reading comprehension skills at aminimum of the tenth grade level.

This course must follow the guidelinesestablished by the NC Office of EMS. TheParamedic Continuing Education program must beconducted by an approved Basic or AdvancedEducational Institution as defined in the rulesof the North Carolina Medical Care Commission. All Continuing Education Programs will at aminimum, meet or exceed the National ContinuedCompetency Program (NCCP) established by theNational Registry of Emergency MedicalTechnicians. The NCCP allows local entities,including the state, region or agency to delivertopics that can be and are not limited to, stateor local protocol changes, tasks that requireremediation based on QA/QI and topics chosen fromrun reviews. Additionally, the NCCP allows anindividual the flexibility to pursue EMS-relatededucation of interest. Student prerequisite/entryrequirements: Currently holds a valid NorthCarolina, NREMT or other State EMS Credential.
